Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs, caused by infection by bacteria, viruses, fungi or other organisms.
Symptoms may include:
- cough with greenish or yellow mucus
- bloody sputum
- fever with shaking chills
- sharp or stabbing chest pain worsened by deep breathing or coughing
- shallow breathing
- shortness of breath
- headache
- excessive sweating and clammy skin
- loss of appetite
- excessive fatigue
- confusion
Causes may include:
- Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus)
Treatment may include:
- medication
- hospitalization
- oxygen
