Epilepsy is a disorder that disrupts the transmission of electrical signals inside the brain. In epilepsy the normal brain patterns become disturbed, causing strange sensations, emotions, and behavior. Epilepsy may develop from an abnormality in brain wiring, an imbalance of nerve signaling chemicals, illness, or an injury.
Symptoms may include:
- seizures
- uncontrollable jerking movements of the arms and legs
- body shaking
- tongue biting
- falling down
- loss of consciousness
