Pyelonephritis is a bacterial infection of one or both kidneys.
Symptoms may include:
- chills
- fever
- pain in the lower part of the back
- nausea
- frequent, painful urination
- enlarged kidney
Causes may include:
- physical obstruction to the flow of urine
- backflow of urine from the bladder into the ureter
- bacteria
