RWJ Hamilton Recognizes Medical Staff on Doctors’ Day
“Our physicians are partners in RWJ Hamilton’s core mission to promote, preserve, and restore the health of our community,” said Skip Cimino, president and CEO of RWJ Hamilton.
Date: 3/28/2013

In a proclamation establishing March 30 as National Doctors’ Day, President George H.W. Bush called medicine “a special calling.”

“Those who have chosen this vocation in order to serve their fellow man understand the tremendous responsibility it entails,” he wrote in 1991.

With doctors’ day approaching, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton leaders paused this week to recognize the contribution physicians make to the hospital’s success.

“Our physicians are partners in RWJ Hamilton’s core mission to promote, preserve, and restore the health of our community,” said Skip Cimino, president and CEO of RWJ Hamilton.

Over the years, physicians have been integral to quality initiatives that have earned the hospital wide recognition, including the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

“Physicians are the key decision-makers related to the care our patients receive and are a crucial aspect of our quality improvement projects,” added Cimino.

Doctors in every corner of the hospital – primary care physicians, surgeons and pediatricians alike – have earned the community’s trust through hard work, sacrifice and dedication. RWJ Hamilton’s doctors are there every day, year in and year out, putting in long and unpredictable hours, committed to maintaining the health and wellbeing of the community.

“From our highly rated maternity department where our obstetricians and gynecologists care for women and children to our nationally recognized orthopedic surgeons, doctors throughout every department in the hospital have teamed up to enhance the quality of care for the patients we serve,” said Cimino.

Given the increasing pressures on hospitals to improve the quality of patient care, the need to continue to engage physicians in hospital quality improvement initiatives is critical, added Joyce Schwarz, Vice President of Quality at RWJ Hamilton.

RWJ Hamilton’s partnership with physicians to improve quality of care can be seen in the department of surgery. RWJ Hamilton recently became nationally certified by the Joint Commission in hip and knee total joint replacement.

“Delivering the right care at the right time and in the right setting is the responsibility of both hospitals and physicians,” says Schwarz. “An open and strong relationship with physicians is – quite frankly - essential to our success, and the success of all hospitals.”

A strong relationship with primary care physicians will become even more important as healthcare reform is implemented and millions of Americans seek medical care.

With National Doctors’ Day approaching, RWJ Hamilton officials said they are proud of the relationship they have forged with their physicians in the effort to be the region’s best, most-trusted health care provider.
