A breast ultrasound (breast sonography) is used to screen for breast cancer in women who are at high risk for breast disease, and have dense breasts. It is also used to evaluate a breast mass to determine if it is cancerous or benign (non-cancerous). Ultrasound imaging helps to determine if a mass is solid or fluid-filled. Ultrasound can also show additional features of the mass. This is a non-invasive procedure.
