Streptococcus pneumoniae is an infection caused by streptococcus pneumoniae.

 
Symptoms

Symptoms may include:

 

  • in meningitis
    • fever
    • stiff neck
    • drowsiness
    • rash
    • seizures
    • irritability
    • possibly effusion
  • in pneumonia
    • fluid-filled tissue and lobes
    • shaking chills
    • cough
    • rust or green-colored mucus
    • high fever
    • elevated pulse
    • bluish lips and nailbeds
    • confusion or delirium
 
Causes

Causes may include:

 

  • antimicrobial agents
 
Treatments

Treatment may include:

 

  • supportive, symptomatic care
  • activity as tolerated
  • diet as tolerated
  • medication
