Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral infection that may progress to pneumonia.
Symptoms may include:
- nonproductive cough
- rash
- high fever
- diarrhea
- respiratory distress (later stages)
Causes may include:
- coronavirus (sarsassociated coronavirus)
Treatment may include:
- strict respiratory and mucosal barrier precautions
- quarantine of exposed people to prevent spread
- diet as tolerated
- activity as tolerated
- medications
