Sarcoidosis (Besnier-Boeck disease) is a multi-systemic disorder characterized by small inflammatory nodules that typically affects the lungs and the lymph nodes.
Symptoms may include:
- fatigue
- lack of energy
- weight loss
- aches and pains
- dry eyes
- blurry vision
- shortness of breath
- dry hacking cough
- skin lesions
- rashes and small bumps
Causes may include:
- hypersensitivity response to atypical mycobacteria, fungi, and pine pollen
- chemicals – abnormal t-cell
- abnormal lymphokine production
Treatment may include:
- protection from sunlight
- low-calcium diet
- reduced-sodium
- high-calorie diet
- adequate fluids
- activity as tolerated
- medication
- corticosteroids like prednisone
