sarcoidosis
 

Sarcoidosis (Besnier-Boeck disease) is a multi-systemic disorder characterized by small inflammatory nodules that typically affects the lungs and the lymph nodes.

 
Symptoms

Symptoms may include:

 

  • fatigue
  • lack of energy
  • weight loss
  • aches and pains
  • dry eyes
  • blurry vision
  • shortness of breath
  • dry hacking cough
  • skin lesions
  • rashes and small bumps
 
Causes

Causes may include:

 

  • hypersensitivity response to atypical mycobacteria, fungi, and pine pollen
  • chemicals – abnormal t-cell
  • abnormal lymphokine production
 
Treatments

Treatment may include:

 

  • protection from sunlight
  • low-calcium diet
  • reduced-sodium
  • high-calorie diet
  • adequate fluids
  • activity as tolerated
  • medication
  • corticosteroids like prednisone
