labyrinthitis Labyrinthitis is an infection of the labyrinth, the fluid-filled chamber of the inner ear that controls balance and hearing. Symptoms Symptoms may include: extreme vertigo (loss of balance and a sensation that either the person or the room is spinning) nausea and vomiting involuntary movements of the eyes hearing loss tinnitus (ringing in the ear) Causes Causes may include: viral infection bacteria inadequately treated or sub-acute otitis media (infection of the middle ear) head injury Treatments Treatment may include: antibiotics other medication bed rest
