Glomerulonephritis (glomerular disease) is a type of kidney disease that impeded the kidneys' ability to remove waste and excess fluids. Glomerulonephritis can be acute - a sudden attack of inflammation or chronic which comes on gradually. Glomerular disease can be part of a systemic disease, like lupus or diabetes or it can be a disease by itself.
Causes may include:
- infections
- immune diseases
- vasculitis
- oolyarteritis
- wegener's granulomatosis
- conditions that cause scarring of the glomeruli
