Down syndrome (trisomy 21) is a chromosomal disorder resulting in mental retardation and physical abnormalities.
Symptoms include:
- delayed physical and mental development
- infants who are quiet, passive, with limp muscles
- children with Down syndrome have better visual motor skills than skills that require hearing
- language skills may develop slowly
- small head
- broad and flat face with slanting eyes and short nose
- prone to vision problems
